Getting an Overseas Loan for Military
A great many of our military personnel must serve
far from home. It is a sad fact of life in our modern world that
freedom is anything but free. So, out young men and women must be
stationed far from home, and often must be there for months –
if not years – at a time.
Yet, they face the same problems as any family:
the kids need braces, the plumbing has to be fixed, the family needs
a new car, the oldest child is ready to go to college, and so forth.
So, very often they have to look into an overseas loan for military
personnel.
Finding a Loan
Fortunately, in our modern high-tech world, we
now have the Internet. So, servicemen and women can search for agencies
and companies that specialize in helping them. Just as an example,
there are web sites like US Military Lending Corp
(USMLC). Now, the name can be a bit deceptive; it is a private company,
and not affiliated with the US Government. But, for the purposes
of this article, they will serve as an adequate example.
Applying for a Loan
First, the company allows service personnel to
apply for a loan,
even though they are overseas.
Normally, the only address requirement
is that they have some sort of permanent address back in the States,
and just about any kind will do. Also, the funds can be deposited
in a stateside bank, or made available at almost any U.S. base.
Now, as to the amount; that will vary depending
on the lender. The Department of Veterans Affairs,
and the Department of Defense both have various
programs for active duty personnel. A firm like USMLC limits loans
to the range of a thousand to twenty-five hundred dollars.
Flexibility with Certainty
Now, no matter what amount the overseas loan
for military personnel is, all of the programs allow for the
money to be used for anything the serviceman (woman) wants to use
it for. Also, all of the loan programs are flexible enough that
they will lend money to anyone, even service personnel with bad
credit.
However, the drawback to this is that the interest
rate is often quite high. One of the positive aspects of these types
of loans is that they often do not require any sort of collateral;
they are unsecured loans. One of the advantages to being a member
of the armed forces is that paychecks are very regular.
After all, “Uncle Sam” is able to
pay his people without being concerned about running out of money.
That is yet another reason that so many companies are willing to
give out an overseas loan for military personnel. The payment plan
is set up so that they monthly payment is automatically deducted
from their paycheck.
Things to Check
When looking at any kind of overseas loan
for military personnel, the serviceman or woman should make
sure the loan has no pre-payment penalty. After all, if they have
to pay a rather high interest rate, it can be a real help to them
if they can pay off the loan early. So, being able to pay a little
extra each month can reduce the life of the loan, and save them
money. That’s the least that can be done for those brave men
and women.
